Unlike the old bins that tapered in the back and could only hold four wheeled bags to be placed in sideways, Boeing claims these new bins will accommodate six standard, carry on size bags when placed front to back.
That’s a 50% increase in capacity.
Being able to carry more bags in the overhead would help to alleviate a major space problem we one-baggers face every time we fly. Of course, this assumes that passengers adhere to the 22 x 14 x 9 rule, don’t over-pack so the bags get thicker, and the airlines actually enforce the rules.
Anyone want to take that bet?
Alaska Airlines will be the first to offer these new bins early next year.
