Delays and Setbacks

OBOWcliplogo.jpgHi. I’m sure many of you are wondering where I’ve been the last few weeks since it’s been very quiet here at OBOW.

Well, let me tell you. It’s been crazy.

As most of you know, back in September, I announced The Adventure where I’m giving up my home, selling most of my stuff, and heading off to full time travel.

That begins in five weeks. And you know what, I haven’t even started getting ready.

Earlier this month, a water pipe in my next door neighbor’s house burst–I live in an attached house–and it flooded my living room. Then I had some unexpected health issues come up. So far nothing serious that would curtail my plans.¬† And, this week, I have to head out of town for a few days which will set me back even further.

I have to sell some of my stuff, arrange to give some of it away, arrange for a storage unit, and arrange for a removal company to take away everything else.

Then I have to figure out where I’m going to have a permanent address, decide whether or not to sell my car, figure out what I’m going to do with my home phone number, and much, much more.

So, you probably won’t be hearing much from me during the next month or so. Once I’m fully moved out, I plan to spend a lot of time posting to OBOW about my future plans and how it will all relate to one bag travel. There are also numerous gear reviews waiting to be done.

I appreciate your understanding and promise that once my clear out it complete, I will catch up with all the reviews and postings that you’ve come to expect. And I can tell¬† you there is some neat stuff scheduled for review.

Let me also add that as part of the clear out, I’m selling some of the travel related items I’ve collected from running this website. Go to the Forum and under “Items For Sale” you’ll see a list of items for sale from OBOW. I’ve added a few things and lowered prices on everything. Next week I put them up on Ebay, so if you want anything let me know now.

Ditto what Bob said. This can’t help but be stressful, good stress but none the less, stress, so take care of yourself!

Just do what you’ve gotta do–this website has been so helpful–thank you very much. I’m looking forward to hearing about your new lifestyle, and will check back from time to time to see whether you’ve headed out yet or not. If there is anything that we, as your loyal readers, can do to help you, just let us know.

RE: Your home number… Port the number to Google Voice, there’s not need to get rid of it. You can port the number over to GV, then forward the GV account to your cell phone. Bingo! No need to tell everyone which number to call, because both will go to your mobile.

When you decide to put down roots again, port the number back to your land line, and your back in business.

Your timing, Michael, is amazing. Just yesterday I was reading about how to do just what you said with Google Voice.

I already have one GV account with a different number so all I have to do is open a new one and port the number. GV does charge to “unlock” the number once they have it when I want to port it somewhere else but it’s only $3.
