Welcome to the new One Bag, One World

OBOWcliplogo.jpg June 19, 2013…….I’d like to welcome all of you to our new website. Completely redesigned, streamlined and jazzed up, you’ll find many of your favorite features only slightly different.

Our main blog is found on our homepage as before. (That’s what you’re reading right now.)

Our new Reader’s Forum has been broken down into categories. Most are self-explanatory. You will have to register to use it however all information provided will be kept private. Links to the forum can be found both on the above toolbar and right sidebar.

There are some current threads in the old forum that could be continued. If you have one of those, feel free to re-post it in the new forum, and if you’ve given an answer, do the same. Lately, there seems to be quite a few long postings that covered some great topics. Please consider re-posting those. (Cutting and pasting is fine.)

If you follow us via RSS, you will have to re-subscribe to new feeds. Besides the old “post” and “comment feeds,” we now have a new “forum” feed as well. Links are in the right sidebar.

If you’d like to follow us on Facebook, Twitter or Pinterest, you’ll find “follow” button in the right sidebar.

Sharing of postings is now simple as you’ll find share buttons at the bottom of all postings.

I’m going to keep our old site up as our “archive” site but it will be closed to comments. A link to it can be found in the above toolbar.

This website is a work in progress. In the coming months, I hope to add new features.

I’m also open to suggestions on ways to improve this website. I’m not going to guarantee to include all of them, but I am interested in hearing them.

I’d like to thank all of our regular contributors and readers who have been supportive through the years and welcome all the new people coming to our site. Let’s make One Bag, One World the premier site when it comes to light travel.

This is where the comments go….I know, it’s different than before.

Congratulations on the new site Frank.

The new site looks nice. Congratulations. One possible glitch – when I registered and then logged in, I was taken to the administrative dashboard. (This might be because I am an admin on a different wordpress site – I don’t know this stuff well enough to know for certain). Anyway, you might consider fixing this! Again, congratulations on the new site.

    Looks great Frank, congrats!

Hi Frank, most stuff seems to be working fine. I’m using Safari 6.0.5 on a Macbook Pro if that helps.

You’re probably aware of the non working stuff but: I did notice that the link to the archive site Forum is broken and that the old RSS feeds try to link to the new site instead of the archive. The other two archive links are working fine.

No problems setting up and using the new RSS feeds (still going to Google Reader which hopefully will be synced with Feedly). Really, really glad to get a feed for the forum postings!!!!!

All in all, fantastic job so far.

Great job on the site Frank!

rabergnc–it looks like the Administration dashboard but it’s a user profile dashboard. It won’t allow you to change anything but your own profile.

Frank T.–thanks…..I fixed the link to the Archive site, the forum issues have been fixed and you can delete the old RSS links because there will be no new comments coming out of the archive site. I’ve closed it to comments. It’s best to update to the new RSS feeds. I did it through Feedly and it works fine.

    Ah…makes sense – thanks.

  9. WOOT!! Wow, it’s GORGEOUS!!! Love the new digs Frank!!!

Very nice! Good job. Seems to be working great.

The new site looks great! Some suggestions: first, your comment system probably needs spam protection (two comments up looks like a bot to me, so it’s probably not long before ads start showing up). Second, it would be great if by default articles were reproduced in full on the front page, rather than having to click through to read each one. In particular, at least the most recent article or few most recent articles could be in full. Your postings aren’t so frequent that I would feel the need to scan articles to see if they’re interesting—I just want to read them!

Contrats on the end of what was no doubt a tedious conversion process!

I forgot to enable the spam protection. I’m trying to stay away from captcha but if this doesn’t work I may have to add it.

Postings will be increasing on this new site so I want to keep it as it is. I thought about only putting one posting per page but it’s possible that those who don’t check the site regularly might miss some.

This way, people can skim the postings and decide if the want to read the whole thing.

    Congratulations!

Very Nice! Thank you Frank for this place to learn and enjoy. Not many places that a bag / travel gear addiction is so nicely received and encouraged

This new site looks nice. Congratulations — I don’t post very often, but I’m a “lurker.” Believe it or not, light, one-bag travel has a lot of relevance to everyday life. I got my Tom Bihn Synapse 19 last month, day-dreaming of all the exotic locations where I would use it — then took my three little grandchildren to the park that same day. The Synapse 19 was just so needed and so useful — I didn’t intend for its maiden voyage to be walking distance from home filled with Fruit Snacks, juice boxes, wet wipes, and Grandpa’s binoculars — but what a treat to put it on my back and head out hands-free with the rug rats. Anyway, all the best and thanks, Frank, for all you do for us –whether we’re trekking the globe, or just the neighborhood.
